Every Rug Tells a Story. Make it A Good One.

“Why just be a human being when you can be a human doing good?” - Thomas Lundgren

We know – it can sometimes be hard to know what style rug to choose for your space. Let us guide you so we can help you to narrow your focus to find THE One perfect rug.

Ethical Sourcing

Since we source from all over the world, we’re committed to helping protect it and the people who live in it. That’s why we only deal with manufacturers who commit to not using child labour

All of THE One rugs are made by hand and by artisans that truly love the art: they’re incredibly unique. By buying one of these rugs, you will ensure that you are acquiring a product that is unlike anything. Not only will you bring to your home a piece of handcrafted art, but you are also helping the artisans by providing them with sustainable livelihoods and medical support for their families. All weavers receive premium wages, mid-day meals, refreshments. You will help to reduce the carbon footprint of machine manufacturing and help to keep the traditional art of rugmaking alive.

RUGMARK Foundation

We work with the Rugmark Foundation – a private, non-profit organisation that ensures that each rug bearing its label has been woven without the use of child labour. A portion of the purchase price of all Rugmark carpets goes towards the education, rehabilitation and healthcare of children who have been taken out of the weaving industry. A further portion is donated by the manufacturer towards aiding impoverished weaving communities and paying for inspectors to spot-check factories, the safety of looms and working conditions of the weavers.

Rugmark has thus built schools, mobile health clinics and rehabilitation centres caring for students and employing teachers and inspectors.

What are the weave styles you have in your collection of rugs?

All THE One rugs are traditionally inspired designs that exemplify timeless style of elegance, comfort and sophistication. There are a number of weave styles that you can find in our collection

Tufted Rugs

These are created without knots. Loops of yarn are pulled through the rug’s backing material using a hand-held tool. The loops are sheared to create a smooth cut-pile surface. One note: tufted rugs shed more than other rugs and may require more-frequent vacuuming.

Best for: family room, bedrooms or living room.

Hooked rugs

Are like tufting but the yarn loops stay intact. The loops of yarn are pulled through the rug’s backing material using a hand-held tool. Instead of being shared like tufted rugs, the loops are left alone, creating a knobby embroidered look.

Best for: family room, bedrooms or living room.

Hand-knotted rugs

This is the most labour-intensive technique used for rug-making. The weavers tie individual knows to the warp yarns that make the length of the rug. The knots form the pile, or surface, of the rug. As these rugs are crafted by artisans, no two rugs are the same.

Best for: formal areas like the living room or majilis.

What type of styles do you have in your collection of rugs?

Traditional

These rugs feature medallions, flowers, and vine motifs in rich colours. They are typically made of wool, cotton, or silk.

We love them for their elaborate borders that can help define seating or dining areas. They bring a classic look to a room.

Kilims

A flat-woven wool rug like dhurries but more tightly woven. Traditional styles have narrow stripes with small geometric designs inside.

We love them for they are perfect for high foot traffic rooms

Natural-Fibre Rugs

These are richly textured and durable that come in different styles. Some have a cotton border; others may have a woven geometric design.

We love them for their durability and their go-with-anything kind of attitude

Your
Shopping Guide to buying THE One Rugs

Buying rugs for your home

A rug gives your interior just that little bit more atmosphere and a homely feeling! A wonderfully warm wool rug for the cold winter months for warm feet or a cotton carpet with light colours in the summer as a beautiful accessory in the house. A rug completes the interior and positively attracts attention in the living room.

A rug adds warmth and depth to your living space and creates a totally new look! In our collection you will find carpets made of materials such as cotton and wool, and other great sustainable materials including recycled plastic bottles. Our standard sizes of rugs are either 170 x 240cm or 200 x 300cm. perfect for any living style. Shop your new rug online or in our stores!

When buying a rug, it is first important to consider the size of the surface on the floor. Would you like to place a rug in the living room? Make sure the rug is large enough so that it disappears partly under the sofa. Placing the front legs of the sofa or armchair on the carpet creates more unity in the seating area.

No carpet in the bedroom, but do you want to add more warmth? Place the bed on a large rug so that enough of the rug is left on either side. Or put a faux-fur small rug at the foot of the bed. In addition, always take the colour of the floor into account. Tip: for a unique effect, place two or three rugs half over each other, or how about rugs as an original wall decoration?
